Patients at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, staged a protest on Monday following the ongoing power cuts at the facility.

In a video circulating on social media, the demonstrators said there has not been water and electricity in the hospital in the last 17 days.

The protesters expressed concern that the lack of essential services has contributed to patient deaths.

One hospital staff member featured in the footage blamed the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) for imposing high tariff on the hospital’s power supply, further compounding the crisis.

The staff member also assured that efforts are underway to restore electricity to the wards.

Funmi Adetuyibi, the spokesperson of the hospital, said the management will release a statement on the situation.

“I’m entering a management meeting right now and in about an hour, I will release a statement that addresses all the issues on ground,” she told TheCable.
