The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) says its operatives are interrogating Linus Williams, chief executive officer of Blord group of companies, over alleged fraud and terrorism.
In a statement on Tuesday, Muyiwa Adejobi, force spokesperson, said the NPF National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) has received complaints against the companies managed by Williams.
“These offences include allegations bordering on cryptocurrency fraud, aiding internet fraud, computer-related fraud, terrorism funding, and non-compliance with regulatory frameworks,” Adejobi said.
“We will do due diligence in our investigations. Our cyber space in Nigeria must be safe and secured by all means. We are committed to achieving that.”

Blord is a popular figure in Nigeria’s cryptocurrency circles, where he is fondly called the ‘crypto billionaire’.
He describes himself as “the CEO of a pioneering fintech company that merges the innovative capabilities of Billpoint and Famous, along with leading crypto trading apps Jetpay, Jetpro, and Bitshop” on his LinkedIn profile.
Williams added that he is responsible for managing the company’s finances, including budgeting and financial planning, and also leads efforts to secure funding and investments to drive business growth.

In February 2021, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) directed banks to close accounts of persons or entities involved in cryptocurrency transactions within their systems.
The federal government recently said the clampdown on some cryptocurrency trading platforms in a bid to stabilise the naira is “yielding fruits”.
