Police release video of suspect as two Nigerians die in shooting at Canada club

Two Nigerians, identified as Tosin Amos-Arowoshegbe and Chibueze Momah, have been shot dead at a club in Canada.

According to a statement by the York regional police in Canada, a third person, who was also shot, is currently receiving treatment at a medical facility.

While circumstances around the incident are still sketchy, the police said the two Nigerians worked as security guards at the club — ATL Lounge.

In the statement issued on Wednesday, the police said they are currently seeking information on a suspect linked to the shooting.

“Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit are seeking assistance to identify a suspect in connection with a double homicide in the City of Vaughan,” the statement reads.

“On Saturday, July 23, 2022, at approximately 3:30 a.m., York Regional Police responded to the ATL Lounge located at 2220 Highway 7, near Keele Street, for a report of a shooting.

“When officers arrived on scene, they located three victims with gunshot wounds. Two of the victims succumbed to their injuries. They were identified as Tosin Amos-Arowoshegbe, 25, of Toronto, and Chibueze Momah, 22, of Mississauga.

“The third victim, a 20-year-old female, was transported to hospital and is currently in stable condition.

“Investigators learned the two deceased victims were employed as security guards for ATL Lounge and the female victim was a patron inside. An altercation took place in the lounge that led to the shooting. Investigators believe this was a targeted incident.

“The suspect fled the scene prior to police arriving. Investigators are releasing photos and a video of a suspect connected to this homicide and his acquaintance.

“The photos and videos were obtained from ATL Lounge. Anyone who can identify these people, are asked to come forward.”

The police shared a link to a video showing the suspect, adding that “evidence can be uploaded directly to investigators” here.

Meanwhile, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has commiserated with families of deceased.

In a statement on Wednesday, Dabiri-Erewa described the victims as “diligent workers”.

“While noting that the police authorities in Canada have begun to look into circumstances surrounding the callous deaths of the two young Nigerians, with the hope of bringing the culprits to book, she is optimistic of justice for the victims,” the statement reads.

“In a condolence message by the Head of Media and Public Relations of the Commission, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri Erewa described the deaths of Chibueze Momah (22), and Tosin Amos-Arowoshegbe (25) as very sad and disheartening.

“She expressed her deepest condolences to their respective families and friends.

“The two Nigerian men were shot dead on Saturday by gunmen at the ATL Lounge in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada.

“According to friends of the deceased, ‘Eze and Tosin were both diligent workers who served as security guards for many lounges in Vaughan. They were loved and cherished by many in the community. Their story was only getting started as they had both recently graduated’.

“Eze was set to make his way into the tech industry and Tosin our beloved Engineer. Unfortunately, their time was cut short. May their souls rest in perfect peace. Aamin.”
