Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo, has announced his intention to seek re-election.

He announced his intention in a message posted on his social media handles on Thursday.

“In my newsletter today, I announced that I have picked up the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for a second term as the elected Governor of the good people of Oyo State,” he wrote.

“If the good people of Oyo State desire it, we will serve for four more years.”

In August 2021, while speaking at a church programme, the Oyo governor had said he wasn’t sure if it was God’s intention for him to seek re-election.

“One of the pastors, while praying, talked about the first and second tenure. Well, I came out in 2019 to tell the people that I wanted to become the governor, but I prayed to God that only His will should be done,” he had said.

“And now, I don’t even know if it is the will of God for me to even seek or push out for a second tenure. The only prayer I want you to be praying is that God’s will alone should be done in my life.”

Makinde was elected as governor in 2019 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
