‘Igbo presidency will end Biafra agitation’ — ex-NESG chairman unveils 2023 bid

Sam Ohuabunwa Sam Ohuabunwa

Sam Ohuabunwa, a former chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), says electing an Igbo president in 2023 will put a stop to the agitation for Biafra.

Speaking at the inauguration of the New Nigeria Group (NNG) in Abuja on Wednesday, Ohuabunwa said God put it in his heart to run for the office of president.

The president of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) said the NNG, made up of members of different political parties, would be a vehicle to ensure unity in the country.

“Every Nigerian who wants unity must support the power shift. Igbo presidency will stop Biafra agitation which asks for equity, fairness and freedom. Even other agitation will stop,” he said.

“We are not coming with anger and recrimination, but with equity. We need to come out and make Nigeria work. God has put it to my heart to come and contest for the office of the president of Nigeria.

“I am making myself available. It must not be me, but an Igbo of character. Ndigbo must present their best.

“God has given me the motivation and what it takes to lead Nigeria to get a country that works for everybody. It is not about the south-east; it is about Nigeria.”

According to him, Nigeria has what it takes to compete favourably with other developed nations.

“We need to unleash our nation to compete aggressively with the rest of the world for a seat among leading nations of the world,” Ohuabunwa said.

“We have all the fundamental requirements to transform. What we have lacked and for which we are prepared to provide, is a crop of enlightened, progressive, sacrificing leadership elite that wants nothing for itself but the good of the average Nigerian citizen.”
