Igbo traditional rulers attend appeal court session, demand release of Nnamdi Kanu

Six Igbo traditional rulers were at the court of appeal in Abuja on Monday to attend the hearing in a suit involving Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The monarchs, who were all attired in their regal garb, stated that they had come to court to support and demand Kanu’s release.

The court of appeal had on October 13 discharged Kanu of terrorism allegations on the grounds that his illegal and forceful rendition by the federal government, stripped the trial court of jurisdiction to continue to try Kanu.

Aggrieved by the court’s verdict, the federal government through the attorney-general of the federation, appealed to the supreme court.

They also filed an application seeking to stay the execution of the appellate court’s judgment.

After listening to the submissions of lawyers at the hearing of the application on Monday, the court of appeal reserved the ruling for a later date.

Meanwhile, the kings stayed in the court and observed the proceedings till the end.
