Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Sunday hailed the founding fathers of Igbobi College, Lagos, for laying solid structures for the grooming of Nigerian youths.

He gave the commendation at a thanksgiving service held at the college chapel by the 1969 to 1973/1975 set of the school.

The nation’s number two citizen, who recalled that the college was where he learnt his values and morals 40 years ago, praised the old students of his alma mater for the opportunity to “come together to glorify God”.

“I think that it is right that we should thank God after 40 years we are able to gather in the chapel,” he said.

“The chapel looks very small now but when we were here it looked like a very big place.

“But this was a place where we learnt a great deal, we learnt values, we learnt morals.

“We learnt so much in this place from teachers and people who committed their lives to us to train and bring us up and to do some incredible things.”

Osinbajo observed that the old boys were not privileged to have some of the pioneer teachers at the event.

“But I hope that by the time we clock 50 years, we will take the opportunity to bring one or two people who were instrumental in making us who we are today,” he said.

“I want to thank the Lord on our behalf that we are all here today; we are able to see ourselves, talk and rejoice and that we also have our wives and families who are also rejoicing with us.

“It is a great thing indeed and I want to thank the Lord and on your behalf thank all those who have made this possible.”
