Ighalo, Alimi, Etebo… TheCable’s team of the week

It was another exciting weekend across the globe as club football continued in Europe after a short international break.

TheCable selects the best XI of Nigerian players in action across the globe.

Odion Ighalo and Sikiru Alimi lead the attack which has Manu Garba, Golden Eaglets’ gaffer, as its coach.

The team also include Wilfred Ndidi, Oghenekaro Etebo, Daniel Akpeyi and Semi Ajayi.

Daniel Akpeyi [Kaizer Chiefs]

Stopped everything thrown at him and was always well placed, blocking Kermit Erasmus’s efforts. He continued his labours at extra time and deflected a Shane Roberts effort.

Kaizer Chiefs kept their Telkom Knockout campaign alive with a penalty shoot-out victory over Cape Town City thanks to Akpeyi who was heroic. Unbeatable.

Semi Ajayi [West Brom]

The 25-year-old was a steady influence at the back and played his part in keeping a clean sheet. Sturdy.

William Troost-Ekong [Udinese]

Tackles, clearances, interceptions, you name them, he did them. A busy afternoon for the former KAA Gent defender who was a stalwart throughout and in a dog eat dog world he wasn’t the top Rottweiler by accident. Acerbic.

Stephen Eze [Lokomotiv Plovdiv]

Eze was always alert and made no less than 20 or so winning interventions, with several utterly vital. Attentive.

Daniel James [Lobi Stars]

A world-class performance from the powerful youngster who on one particular run left Togo seeing more of Haley’s Comet than him. Always up for it, he was a nuisance from start to finish. Mercurial.

Wilfred Ndidi [Leicester City]

Was at his brilliant best by setting the stadium alight with some excellent work. Superb.

Oghenekaro Etebo [Stoke City]

Caused problems from the start. Forever pushed his team and pressed Fulham hard. Electric.

Eberechi Eze [QPR]

The man of the match scored two goals from the penalty spot. His all-over-the-field work and precise passes left Hull City like a gang of Jordan Belforts on Quaaludes. Stunning.

Odion Ighalo [Shanghai Shenhua]

As always a thoroughbred and he consistently hassled the Dalian Yifang defence within and without. Scored a superb and richly deserved goal. Accomplished.

Sikiru Alimi [Lobi Stars]

Alimi scored twice against Togo as he stuck out like a pair of patent leather shoes at a hoedown with his dazzling footwork. He also had a strong effort blocked and menaced throughout. Stunning.

Daniel Chima [Heilongjiang Lava Spring]

A superb performance saw him bag a brace against Meizhou Hakka. He scored in the 33rd and 39th minutes respectively. Outstanding.
