Ighalo nets 14th goal, but Watford lose to Tottenham
December 28
18:55 2015

Odion Ighalo continued his scoring streak in Monday’s EPL game against Tottenham Hotspur but could not salvage any point for Watford.

Spurs took a first-half lead through an Erik Lamela strike before Ighalo equalised for the hosts after proving too strong for three Spurs defenders to poke home from close range.

Ighalo forced his way past Eric Dier, and faced with challenge from other incoming defenders, the Nigerian put the ball past Hugo Lloris for his 14th premier league goal.

The goal makes him the leading scorer in all of England’s top four tiers of football, with a total of 30 in 2015, 14 of thom coming in the current EPL campaign.

The two sides walked backed into the tunnel at half-time with the scores at 1-1.

The Hornets played the latter part of the game with a man down after Nathan Ake was sent off with a straight red card for a rough challenge on Lamela.

Watford had never lost in the premier league since the 1-2 loss to Manchester United on November 21 at Vicarage road.

Quique Sánchez Flores and his side looked like they would run away with a win following a surge on the Spurs defence, which was cleared by Lloris at the last breath.

But the away team took advantage of Watford’s late-minute lapse in the extra time, as they surged forward and were rewarded through a Son Heung-min finish with one minute left to play, the Korea international flicking home a Kieran Trippier’s cross right under the legs of a helpless Huerelho Gomes.
