IGP removes Kolawole as police spokesperson

‎Ibrahim Idris, the new inspector-general of police (IGP), has removed Olabisi Kolawole as spokesperson of the force.

Kolawole had been the spokesperson of the police since August 2015.

Idris, who assumed office last week, appointed Don Awunah, a deputy-commissioner, as the new spokesman.

The appointment was conveyed in a statement by the media of the police.

“The inspector-general of police, Ag IGP Ibrahim K Idris, has appointed DCP Don Awunah, as the new force public relations officer to replace ACP Olabisi Kolawole, who was the force public relations officer from August 2015 to June 2016,” the statement read.

Until his new assignment, Awunah was deputy commissioner of police in charge of homicide section of force criminal investigation and intelligence department (FCIID) Abuja.

He holds a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy from the University of Lagos and a master’s degree in international relations and strategic studies from Benue state university, Makurdi.

He is a fellow of the Institute of Security Studies, a fellow of Institute of Corporate Administration, and a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).
