IGP visits Maiduguri, says police facilities damaged by flooding will be repaired

Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police, has visited Maiduguri, Borno state capital, to sympathise with victims of the flood disaster.

Last Tuesday, flood displaced thousands of residents from their homes in the Fori, Galtimari, Gwange, and Bulabulin areas of Maiduguri.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said more than 30 people have died and over 400,000 have been displaced due to the flood in the state capital.

The Borno government has opened up internally displaced persons (IDP) camps for victims across the state.

On Monday, Egbetokun and other senior police officers paid a visit to the Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno, at the government house in Maiduguri.

In a statement, Muyiwa Adejobi, police spokesperson, said the IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the force to providing security for residents.

Egbetokun sympathised with the Borno governor and residents for the havoc caused by the flood disaster.

On his part, Zulum commended the Egbetokun for his “sterling leadership qualities in piloting the affairs of the police to discharge its duties as expected”.

The IGP urged police officers attached to the Borno command to assist the state government and other agencies in providing relief and security to affected residents.

Th IGP promised that there will be plans to repair damaged police facilities in the affected communities.
