The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has asked the supreme court to review the judgment stopping the disbursement of the federation account allocation committee (FAAC) funds to Rivers state.

On Friday, the supreme court affirmed the judgment of a federal high court that barred the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the accountant-general of the federation from releasing statutory monthly allocations to Rivers state.

The apex court also ordered the Martin Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers state house of assembly and other elected members to resume sitting.

The federal high court had stopped the release of funds to Rivers after Siminalayi Fubara, governor of the state, failed to re-present the 2024 Appropriation Bill before the Amaewhule-led assembly.

The Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers assembly is loyal to Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT) and immediate former governor of the state.

The supreme court also nullified the local government election held in Rivers state on October 5, 2024.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Alaye Theophilus, president of IYC, said stopping FAAC allocations to Rivers would deny the state of development.

He said as a major contributor to the nation’s coffers, Rivers should not be starved of funds, saying the apex court should review the judgment.

Theophilus added that the verdict has “agitated” the Ijaw youths who have been peaceful and supportive of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
