Ikeme writes NFF to announce withdrawal from Algeria clash

Carl Ikeme, Nigeria’s number one goalkeeper, has written a letter to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to announce his withdrawal from the crucial encounter between the Super Eagles and their Algerian counterparts.

Ikeme sustained a hip injury while featuring for his Wolverhampton Wanderers club side on Saturday.

Dayo Enebi, Super Eagles team secretary, told TheCable that Ikeme had written to the federation to inform it that he will not be available for the Algerian encounter.

“Carl sent an email yesterday to inform the federation to exclude him from the Algeria game due to an injury he sustained on Saturday,” he said.

“He will not be available for the game as he will definitely not be fit in time for the game against Algeria.

“For now we have not decided who will be invited in his place.”

Ikeme became the choice keeper after Vincent Enyeama quit following a disagreement with Sunday Oliseh, former manager of the team.
