Musa Aliyu, chair of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), says he will be “fair, firm, and humble” in the fight against corruption.

Aliyu spoke on Thursday when he appeared before the senate to be screened for the top ICPC job.

The now-confirmed nominee said under his stewardship, the ICPC would be proactive in the fight against corruption.

“We need to be proactive in the fight against corruption,” he said.

“In the event it happens (corruption) — and it will happen — we have to make efforts to get assets traced to corruption and hand it over to the government or the victim of the crime.”

The lawyer said there is a need for the country’s narrative about corruption to be changed.

“I lived in Malaysia for three years, I know how they look at us. There is a need for us to make efforts to change the narrative,” Aliyu said.

“I want to assure you that I will live above board. We will not put people to shame unnecessarily. We will do proper investigations.

“I will be fair, firm, and humble.”

President Bola Tinubu also appointed Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu as secretary of the ICPC.

Bolaji Owasanoye, outgoing chair of the ICPC, has proceeded on his retirement leave.
