Traditional rulers in Ondo, on Wednesday, converged in Akure, the state capital, to pray for the quick recovery of Rotimi Akeredolu, the state governor.
In January, Richard Olatunde, Akeredolu’s chief press secretary, had said the governor was battling some health challenges and receiving treatment.
Earlier in the month, the state house of assembly said it received a leave letter from Akeredolu, saying the governor embarked on a 21-day medical leave outside of Nigeria’s shores while the deputy governor takes charge of the state affairs.

Led by Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, the paramount ruler of Akure Kingdom, the state council of traditional rulers held the prayer session at the cocoa conference hall of the governor’s office.
While leading the prayer, Luyi Rotimi, Olujigba of Ijigba, Akure, prayed to God to grant the governor a quick recovery so as to resume back to the office.
On his part, George Faduyile, the Abodi of Ikale Land, described the governor as a pride to Ondo state and the country at large.

The chief imam of Akure was represented by Yusuf Agbesinga, the Imam of Gaga Community, who led Islamic prayer for the governor and the state.
Adeyeye Michael, the chief press secretary to the Deji of Akure, said the council decided to come together to seek the face of God collectively, having offered prayer at their different domain at different times.
Aladetoyinbo described the governor as a fearless leader who had done so much for the state in terms of security and infrastructure.
The monarch, however, frowned at the “unnecessary uproar by people who wanted to use the governor’s absence to settle political issues”.

“Rather than causing unnecessary tension, the politicians should rather come together and pray for the governor and the state to seek the good of the land,” Aladetoyinbo said.
