I’ll make sure public servants avoid corruption, says new CCB chair

Abdullahi Bello, the new chair of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), has promised to deliver on the mandate of the agency.

Bello was sworn in on Wednesday by President Bola Tinubu during the federal executive council (FEC) meeting.

Speaking after the swearing-in ceremony, Abdullahi said the CCB, under his leadership, will work to restore the integrity of the public service.

Bello said he will ensure that public officials act with integrity and eschew corruption.

“The Code of Conduct Bureau was the first anti-corruption agency in Nigeria and I intend to deliver on the mandate of the bureau,” he said.

“It’s all about making sure that people in the public service, that is the public servants, behave with integrity they avoid corruption and no conflict of interest.

“The aim is integrity and accountability; those are the duties that I will deliver.

“I always say that it’s not about the location of where you are, everybody has (the) tendency to be corrupt.

“One of the most important thing is the systems that we have in place to check it (corruption).

“If we have the system in Nigeria, we are going to be dealing with this problem. So, I assure (you) that we have the systems and institutions. We only need to deliver on the mandate that is given to us then everything will be all right.”

In March, Tinubu appointed Bello as CCB chair. He was confirmed by the senate in July.
