I’ll be proud of this senate even in my grave, says Na’Allah on SGF’s sack

Bala Na’Allah, deputy leader of the upper legislative chamber, says he will be proud of the 8th senate “even in his grave”.

Speaking at plenary on Tuesday, Na’Allah said the senate had been vindicated with the sack of Babachir Lawal as secretary to the government of the federation (SGF).

He said “gullible Nigerians” were sponsored to discredit the national assembly which was working for the people.

The deputy senate leader vouched for the integrity of the eight senate.

“I believe in the integrity of each member of the eight senate where I have the privilege to be the deputy senate leader. We cannot claim not to know that between yesterday and today, there has been an official appointment of a new SGF,” Na’Allah said.

“Those who have tried to bring down the institution of the senate, God will vindicate us before their eyes. The issues surrounding the determination of the appointment of the former SGF emanated from this eight senate, today we have been vindicated.

“The issues surrounding Maina emanated from this senate. Can we not have the authority to shout a sign of vindication? We have.

“I will remain proud of this senate even in my grave. It is important that the pending committees charged these investigations expeditiously turn out their investigations. This is why I am calling on committee with pending investigations to do so. We must continue to keep the flag flying.”

Senate President Bukola Saraki commended President Muhammadu Buhari for sacking Lawal.

“It has been a tough journey in order to protect the integrity of this institution. I want to commend the president for doing what is right. In this matter, we would vouch our commitment to fighting corruption,” he said.
