Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), says he is challenging Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 presidential poll.
TheCable reported that the LP candidate in a chat with Arise TV on Monday said he was not interested in challenging the “outcome” of the election, but rather, in the process leading to the declaration of Tinubu as the president-elect.
However, in a post on his official Twitter handle, Obi said he is also challenging the process leading to the declaration of Tinubu as the president-elect.
“Following my response to a question while appearing on Arise TV earlier today, I want to state categorically that at the Presidential Elections Tribunal (PET), I am challenging the INEC electoral process that led to the declaration of Tinubu as president-elect as well as the declaration itself,” Obi said.

On March 1, INEC declared Tinubu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the election.
Obi had insisted on challenging the results in court, alleging irregularities by the electoral commission.
Consequently, the court of appeal granted leave to him to have access to all the sensitive materials used by INEC for the election. But, On Saturday, LP accused INEC of not allowing Obi’s lawyers access to the materials despite the court ruling.

On Monday, the legal team of the LP had a meeting with INEC to discuss the inspection of election materials used for the February 25 poll.
INEC at the meeting assured the legal team that all materials it requested would be provided, adding that the commission has nothing to hide.
