‘I’m deeply pained’ — Uba Sani promises support for victims of Kaduna road accident

Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna, has commiserated with families of victims of a road accident in the state.

On Monday, more than 36 people died on their way to Saminaka to observe Eid-el-Maulud, a celebration marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

Ahmad Dayyabu, organiser of the event, told BBC that the “overcrowded bus” collided with an oncoming truck near Lere town.

In a statement on Tuesday, the governor said 40 people died in the accident, with 48 others sustaining injuries.

Sani promised to offer assistance to families of the deceased and directed the commissioner of health to ensure that the injured are given adequate medical attention.

“H.E. Senator Uba Sani received with shock and deep sense of loss news of the death of 40 people in a ghastly motor accident in Saminaka, Lere Local Government of Kaduna State,” he said.

“48 others sustained injuries in the unfortunate incident and are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals.

“The Governor is deeply pained by the tragedy. His thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased and those who sustained injuries in the accident.

“The Governor has directed the Commissioner of Health to ensure that those injured are given adequate medical attention. The Government will also reach out to the families of the deceased with a view to offering some assistance to lessen their pains.”
