I’m frustrated not playing in the Champions League, says Mourinho

Jose Mourinho says he is “frustrated” not to be in Europe’s top club competition this season.

Speaking at his official unveiling on Tuesday morning, Mourinho said he expects Manchester United absence to last for just a season.

“I was never very good playing with words or hiding behind words, and hiding behind philosophies. I was never good at that, I never tried to be good on that,” he said.

“I was always much more aggressive in my approach, with the risks that obviously can bring. It would be easy, even honest and pragmatic from my side, to focus on [the fact] we don’t qualify for the Champions League.

“It would be quite pragmatic to say: ‘Let’s work and let’s try to be back to the Champions League, be back to the top four.’ I am not good on that and I didn’t want to be good on that.

“I am more aggressive. We want to win. I want everything. I want to win matches, I want to play well, I don’t want to concede goals. I want the fans to be behind us.

“I don’t hide, I chase Sir Alex [Ferguson]’s record in Champions League matches. Manchester United is a Champions League club. We have to make sure in July 2017 that this club is where it belongs.”
