Imam bars worshippers without face masks from Nasarawa mosque

Khalud Ibrahim, imam of JIWIS central mosque, Gudi, in Akwanga local government area of Nasarawa state, sent out worshippers without face masks from the mosque on Sunday during the Eid prayers.

Nasarawa state government, on May 19, lifted the ban on religious gatherings for two weeks, with conditions that worshippers must wear face masks and maintain social distancing in churches and mosques.

The state also directed religious leaders to provide water for hand washing as well as hand sanitisers in order to contain further spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

Abdullahi Sule, governor of Nasarawa state, was among worshippers who observed prayers at the Gudi central mosque.

Ibrahim said the decision to send out worshippers without face masks from the mosque was in compliance with the state government’s directives to contain the spread of COVID-19, NAN reported.

He, however, urged Muslims to always be obedient to God and their leaders at all levels for the overall peace and development of the country.

Ibrahim added that the ills in the society was due to the disobedience of the people and urged them to seek God’s intervention.
