The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo state is “intimidating” its members.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Debo Ologunagba, PDP spokesperson, claimed that the intimidation is aimed at “distracting and suppressing” members of the opposition party, especially its candidate and deputy, ahead of the November gubernatorial election in the state.
The PDP also alleged that the APC is using security personnel to “harass and intimidate opposition figures” in the state.
“The latest being the scandalous attempt by the APC to use certain police operatives to arrest and put Dr Jones Onyereri (PDP deputy governorship candidate in Imo) out of circulation ahead of the election,” the statement reads.

The opposition party said the attempt to use the security agents as a tool of political coercion against its candidates further confirmed that the APC is “jittery and in mortal fear” of Senator Sam Anyanwu and Dr Onyereri’s imminent victory in the forthcoming election.
The PDP claimed that the APC is orchestrating “trump-up charges, spurious allegations, bogus claims and smear campaign against opposition figures in the state”.
The opposition party asked security agencies to act professionally in carrying out their duties and not do the bidding of politicians.

“The people of Imo state are solidly behind our candidates, Senator Sam Anyanwu and Dr Onyereri being confident in their experience, competence, capacity, resourcefulness, love for the people and deep intellect to rescue, revamp and make Imo state safe and prosperous again,” the party added.
