The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo has alleged that individuals loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC) carried out the destruction of the billboards of Samuel Anyanwu, the opposition governorship candidate.
Ikenna Onuoha, spokesperson of the Imo PDP campaign council, in a statement on Monday, said the destruction of the billboards was an attempt by the ruling party to prevent the opposition from showcasing its candidates to the people ahead of the November 11 election in the state.
“We are appalled to inform the good people of the state that Hope Uzodinma, in his state of jittery and panicky over his looming defeat has ordered the immediate removal of billboards bearing the pictures of the Imo PDP Governorship and Deputy Governorship candidates, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu and Rt Hon Jones Onyereri in the state,” the statement reads.
“In carrying out Uzodinma’s order, members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by its self-acclaimed leader in Ikeduru LGA while under the cover of security operatives destroyed the billboard of the PDP candidate mounted at Atta-Amaimo Ikeduru junction.

“This is the height of desperation; Uzodinma cannot foist himself on Imo people or force us to vote him in the November 11 Governorship poll.
“This is one out of the numerous billboards of our party candidates destroyed by Uzodinma and his agents across the state ostensibly, to stop PDP from showcasing its Governorship and Deputy Governorship candidates 46 days to the November 11 election.
‘While our campaign council has continued to endure intimidation, harassment and grievous damage of our campaign materials by Uzodinma and his supporters, it is therefore trite to let the public know that such illegal act may trigger violence in the state if not properly handled.

“Painfully, this is a state whose citizens are currently hiding from being killed due to government’s failure to guarantee their safety.
“What Uzodinma and his agents are doing in the state shows that they are indeed, the major beneficiaries of insecurity.
“The council therefore calls on the Inspector General of Police, Department of State Security Services and other heads of security agencies to call Uzodinma and his agents to order to avoid hitting up the polity.
“While the PDP campaign council urges its teeming supporters to remain calm and law abiding under this disturbing situation, all avenues will be utilized to correct the anomaly.”
