Imo varsity expels four students, rusticates 19 for exam malpractice

The University of Agriculture and Environmental Science (UAES) in Umuagwo, Imo state has expelled four students for their involvement in examination malpractices.

The UAES exam misconduct committee (EMC), in a statement on Thursday, confirmed that 19 more were rusticated from the university for one year.

The committee said the affected students were found culpable in various degrees of examination misconduct.

“A total of 23 students were reported indulging in exam malpractice and were invited by the management on September 2023,” the committee said.

“Those that failed to honour the invitation were given another opportunity on October of the same year to appear.”

The committee said four students were found guilty of impersonation.

The committee said 10 others were said to be using their phones and other relevant materials to cheat during exams.

“Fourteen of the students honoured the committee’s invitation but nine refused to show up after being invited twice,” the EMC said.

“Four of the students were involved in impersonation. Eleven were caught using relevant materials while eight were involved in using their cellphones to cheat during the examination.

“The four students expelled from the school for impersonation were Ugwuegbu P, Diedie Ugwuegbu, Onyeanwa U.G, and Sabastine C.P.

“All were from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Microbiology, and Computer Science respectively.”

The EMC named those rusticated to include Onuoha C.W of Peace and Conflict Department, Osondu Prince of Criminology, Onyema C.O of Petrochemical Engineering, Osuala C of Electrical Engineering, and Ugorji J. F of Microbiology.

Others are Eze O. A of Biochemistry, Mmeremiko S.O of Biochemistry, Iruaju C.O of Computer Science, Opara S.C of Computer Science, and Nebo C.D of FST.
