Niger Delta Avengers, the militant group responsible for recent attacks on oil installations, says “government agents and impostors” have opened fraudulent Twitter accounts in its name.
The Twitter account of the militants, @NDAvengers, was suspended by authorities of the micro-blogging platform on Monday.
Following the suspension, two new accounts — @Real_Ndavengers and @NDAvengers1 — were created on Tuesday by unknown elements pretending to be the Avengers.
The spokesman of the militant group told TheCable that the two accounts are being operated by impostors, which it called “government agents” opposed to their struggle.

“This is the only Twitter account we have and it under suspension from Twitter because we bridged their policy. @Real_Ndavengers and @NDAvengers1 all impostors and enemies of the region. The general public should not listen to those handles because they are government agents against our struggle,” Mudoch Agbinibo, spokesperson of the Avengers, said in an email to TheCable.
Agbinibo would further reveal on the website of the group, that the phony accounts “took advantage” of its account suspended by Twitter to deceive the public.
“The Date and time shows they took advantage of our suspended account to scam the general public. Please be mindful of these accounts,” the website entry read.
