President Muhammadu Buhari will, on Friday morning, address the country through a nationwide broadcast.
In a statement on Thursday, Femi Adesina, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, said the broadcast is part of activities to commemorate Nigeria’s 61st independence anniversary celebrations.
“As part of activities marking the 61st independence anniversary of the country, President Muhammadu Buhari will broadcast to the nation on Friday, October 1, 2021, at 7 am,” Adesina said.
“All television, radio and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), respectively, for the address.”

Since he became president in 2015, President Buhari has always presented Independence Day speeches via televised broadcasts.
In 2020, Adesina had announced that the president would address Nigerians live from the Eagle Square, Abuja, but the statement was later retracted.
