INEC: 379,245 PVCs uncollected in Edo ahead of governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says 379,245 permanent voter cards (PVCs) have not been collected in Edo state.

This announcement comes few days before the Edo state governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Sam Olumekun, INEC’s national commissioner, said of the 2,629,025 registered voters in Edo, 2,249,780 — representing 85.57 percent — have collected their PVCs, while 14.43 percent (379,245) are yet to be collected.

“The collection process ended on Sunday, 16th September 2024, and INEC is providing data on PVC collection at the polling unit level in Edo state for transparency,” Olumekun said.

He added that the information has been uploaded on INEC’s website for the guidance of political parties, candidates, and the public.

He said the registered voters in Edo state comprise 1,370,061 males (52.11 percent) and 1,258,964 females (47.89 percent).

Youths aged 18 to 35 years make up 37.4 percent (983,133) of the total voters, followed by middle-aged individuals (36 to 49 years), who account for 914,806 registered voters.

The governorship election will take place across 4,519 polling units in the state.
