INEC declares APC’s Omadefu winner of Nasarawa assembly seat

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Mohammed Omadefu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the rerun election for the Keana constituency seat in the Nasarawa state house of assembly.

In November, the court of appeal declared the March 18, 2023 election inconclusive.

The appellate court ordered a rerun election in five polling units in Agaza electoral ward.

Declaring the results of the rerun election in Keana, Hassan Imam, the returning officer, said Omadefu polled 557 votes to defeat Basil Osheka of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 470 votes.

NAN quoted the returning officer as saying that votes garnered by each candidate at the rerun election would be added to what they got when the election was first held in March 2023.

Imam said the votes now summed up to 8,069 for Omadefu and 7,917 for the PDP candidate.

“Consequently, Mohammed Omadefu of APC, having scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” the returning officer said.

Thereafter, Omadefu thanked the people of Agaza electoral ward and the entire Keana constituency for their “love and support”.

The soon-to-be sworn in lawmaker said he would consolidate his previous achievements with the renewed mandate given to him by the people.
