There has been a fire incident at the Electoral Institute of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), located at Central Area, Abuja.
According to an INEC official who confirmed the story to TheCable, the fire occurred at the warehouse (pictured) containing non-sensitive electoral materials.
He explained that the fire started very late on Saturday night, but was put out very early on Sunday.
“It started very late on Saturday night, but I got the call around 1am on Sunday. It was put out around 3am,” the official, who didn’t want to be named, said.

“Some non-sensitive electoral materials such as envelopes, voter education materials and bags for conveying electoral materials to registration areas, were damaged. But thankfully, the fire was extinguished before it spread to the warehouse containing sensitive materials.”
Attahiru Jega, chairman of INEC, was at the institute on Sunday morning to assess the impact of the fire.
