The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has received over two million applications on the online portal for the continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise.

In June, the commission launched a portal where Nigerians can register or request to update their voter information before they complete the process physically at designated centres.

In a statement on Monday, Festus Okoye, chairman, INEC information and voter education committee, said the number of new registrants has risen to 2,215,832.

The electoral body also said the number of completed registrations at physical centers has reached 430,363.

“Similarly, four weeks ago, the Commission commenced the in-person or physical registration as well as the completion of online pre-registration in our State and Local Government Area offices nationwide. The number of completed registration now stands at 430,363.”

According to the data released by the commission, youths account for the highest number of registrants with 1,877,552 registrations.

The data also shows that Osun state is in the lead for online registrations with 365,412 registrants, while Anambra leads in the number of completed registrations with 30,376 registrants.

The commission called on all eligible citizens who have not registered to seize the opportunity to do so.

“For emphasis, the commission wishes to reiterate that those who have already registered as voters need not register again. However, those who wish to transfer to another place where they wish to vote in future elections or who have issues with their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) may apply online or in-person for resolution,” it said.
