INEC: Over 5.5 million PVCs collected in Lagos

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos says over 5.5 million registered voters in the state have collected their permanent voter cards (PVC).

Speaking with reporters in the state on Wednesday, Femi Akinbiyi, the commission’s public relations officer in Lagos, put the number of registered voters in the state at 6, 566,136.

He said there are still many PVCs yet to be collected, urging those who have not collected theirs to do so as soon as possible.

Akinbiyi said INEC was ready for the elections and has started moving non-sensitive materials to all the commission’s offices in each council area.

“There are still so many PVCs yet to be collected at the INEC offices in the 20 local government areas of the state,” Akinbiyi said.

“We are also appealing to all registered voters who are yet to pick up their PVCs to do so before it will be too late for the 2019 general election.

“Ample opportunities have been given to all eligible voters who registered for PVCs to collect them. I want to urge the people to create time to collect their cards.”

Akinbiyi also said the commission will meet with stakeholders on February 12 to discuss preparations for the elections.
