INEC to publish full list of voters Jan. 13

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) intends to publish the register of voters for the conduct of the 2015 general election on Tuesday, January 13.

According to the commission, this is a crucial milestone on the journey to the election, as section 20 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) provides that the register of voters for an election shall be published at least 30 days before the election.

While the presidential and national assembly elections will hold on February 14, 2015,  the state governorship and state houses of assembly elections are scheduled for February 28.

“Also, the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2015 general election released to the public on January 24, 2014 shows under item 10 that the commission shall release/publish the official register of voters for the election on January 13, 2015,” it said in a statement on Friday.

The percentage of PVCs distributed nationwide by the commission as of January 7 2015 has attained 71.35%,” it added.
