Informants: Boko Haram will ‘negotiate with Chibok girls or use them as shields’

Two “mid-level” Boko Haram fighters are sure that Abubakar Shekau, the sect’s leader, will either use the kidnapped Chibok girls to negotiate the release of detained terrorists or use them as human shield against any attack from government troops.

Speaking with CNN on Monday, the men revealed how Boko Haram coerces men into joining the group at gunpoint, but said they had to speak out to save their children.

“This [speaking out] is the only way our children will have a future,” one of them said, adding that a number of his friends who were forced to join the group subsequently received terrorism training in Sudan and Somalia.

Speaking on the groups’ recruitment pattern, the other said: “After convincing you, once you move to their training camp, that is the end. You won’t come back again.

“They take them to the bush and then force you to join. It is either you join or they will kill you.”

On the kidnapped Chibok girls, they maintained that Boko Haram “will use them to negotiate with the government about those of their members that have been detained by the government, or use them as human shield.”

  1. It's obvious that we are going to lose some of the girls in trying to rescue them, but that is the reality of collateral damage. It is also obvious that the insurgency has become an Al-Qaeda franchise as espoused by the President as they are trained by the other franchises in Somalia and Sudan. Please remember that Stephen Ogwuche, the Idoma Boko Haram member and Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the erstwhile Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria were radicalised at the African International University in Kharttoum, Sudan after studying Sharia. The North of Nigeria is an albatross hanging on the neck of Nigeria's progress. That blighted part of Nigeria requires radical rehabilitation, like cold turkey heroin or cocaine withdrawal or else we won't go anywhere as a country.
