Paris Saint-Germain’s world record signing and talisman, Neymar Jr. is set to miss the upcoming Champions League return leg clash with Real Madrid due to a double injury blow.
The Brazilian forward, bought in a record-shattering £200 million deal from Barcelona was stretchered off during Sunday’s 3-0 Le Classique win over Olympique Marseille in which he provided two assists.
The 26 year-old’s team coach, Unai Emery, said after the game he was “hopeful” the former Santos prodigy could be fit for Cristiano Ronaldo and co.’s visit to Paris in their bid to overturn the 3-1 first leg deficit.
The under-pressure Spanish coach’s hope was however dashed when doctors confirmed his star striker had fractured a metatarsal in his right foot and also sprained an ankle which would keep him out of the encounter that could make or mar PSG’s season and further tarnish their burgeoning European pedigree which suffered a setback due to Barcelona overturning a 4-0 PSG win with a humiliating 6-1 drubbing to send the Parisiens crashing out at a similar stage last season.

Neymar, a subject of interest from Real Madrid CEO, Florentino Perez, mesmerized the Santiago Bernabeu crowd in the first leg despite the loss and has scored 29 goals in 30 games since his summer move to PSG. The Brazilian national team captain could be sorely missed by his team in the return leg slated for Tuesday, 6th of March, at the Parc de Princes stadium.
