Insecurity: CP to deploy more officers to Zaria as emir laments attacks

Ahmed Bamalli, Emir of Zazzau, has called for more efforts to address security challenges in parts of the emirate.

Bamalli spoke on Monday when he was paid a visit by Umar Muri, Kaduna commissioner of police.

TheCable had reported how gunmen invaded Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic in Zaria, Kaduna, on Thursday.

The incident makes it the fourth attack on a school in the state in 2021.

The traditional ruler said despite the presence of many police and military formations in the emirate, the security situation is worrying.

He called on the state government to put more efforts into addressing the challenges.

“There are many villages where the residents cannot sleep because of gunshots and the village heads are crying profusely at the palace over the deteriorating security condition in their domain,” Bamalli said.

“This is how bad it is in some parts of the emirate.”

On his part, Muri assured the emir that more police personnel would be deployed with a view to addressing banditry, kidnapping, and other security challenges in the state.

He urged community leaders to work closely with the local vigilante, while calling on traditional rulers and residents of various communities to support the police and other agencies in intelligence gathering.

“There is presence of security agencies in the 12 local government areas that make up Zazzau emirate, but it is not possible for us to be in the entire nooks and crannies of the emirate,” Muri said.

“As you know, there is a shortage of manpower and other challenges.

“We are doing our best and also recording success. Between January and March, the military and police were able to neutralise about 64 armed bandits, apart from many others, in the course of air interdictions.”
