The Ebonyi government has announced a ban on processions and mass gatherings in the state.

In a statement on Tuesday, Uchenna Orji, the state commissioner for information, said the directive came from David Umahi, governor of the state, “in view of the new development in the tactics and dimensions adopted by criminal elements in their attacks on public facilities”.

He said the state government has also directed security agencies and Ebube Agu to enforce the state curfew announced in April.

“The ban on movement into and out of Ebonyi State from 8pm to 6am is still in force,” the statement reads.

“Mass gatherings are not allowed except in essential service centres.

“Security agencies and Ebubeagu have been detailed to enforce all restriction orders issued by the state government.”

He also urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and Ebube Agu on the provision of “useful information on the activities of criminal elements anywhere in the state” in order to secure the state from “enemies of the progress”.

In recent times, Ebonyi has witnessed several attacks on public facilities, including police stations.

Gunmen, on Sunday, launched an attack on Ugbuodo divisional police headquarters, killing one officer in the process.

Similarly, on May 6, some gunmen attacked Obiozara police station in Ohaozara LGA of the state.
