Usman Baba, the inspector-general of police (IGP), has ordered the deployment of more resources to strategic areas in the federal capital territory (FCT).
Muyiwa Adejobi, force spokesman, announced the development in a statement on Tuesday.
The development comes amid attacks and threats of further attacks on communities in the FCT.
According to the statement, the IGP also urged residents of the FCT to support the efforts of the police and other agencies on improving security.

“We are not leaving any stone unturned to fortify the Federal Capital Territory and its environs,” the statement reads.
“The IGP has ordered for additional deployment of assets to Strategic areas of the FCT, while the Force Intelligence Bureau has been charged on robust intelligence gathering and information sharing amongst other agencies.
“All residents of the FCT are urged to synergise and be on the same page with the Police and other security agencies in making sure that we forestall any ugly incidences in and around the FCT.”

On Sunday, troops from the guards brigade’s 7 battalion of the Nigerian Army were ambushed by gunmen.
The battalion is a unit under the guards brigade, which is responsible for protecting the president.
The soldiers were said to be on routine patrol along the Kubwa-Bwari road when they were ambushed.
Godfrey Abakpa, spokesperson of the brigade, on Tuesday, said the army recorded three casualties following the ambush.

Meanwhile, on Monday, the ministry of education ordered the immediate closure of the Federal Government College, Kwali, in the FCT over security threats.
