The Kaduna government has prohibited the transportation of livestock from the state to other parts of the country.

The ban is said to be part of measures to address the security challenges affecting the state.

The state government also ordered the immediate suspension of the Kawo weekly market in Kaduna North LGA — trading at the market holds every Tuesday.

The new directive was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by Samuel Aruwan, Kaduna commissioner for internal security and home affairs.

The commissioner added that the ban “takes effect immediately, from today 2nd September 2021”.

He also said “the transportation of donkeys into the state is a criminal offence”, adding that offenders will be dealt with.

“After wide consultations and thorough security reviews, the Kaduna State Government has banned the transportation of livestock from the state to other states in the country,” the statement reads.

“This ban also prohibits the transportation of livestock into Kaduna state from other states. Both bans take effect immediately, from today, 2nd September 2021.

“The government also wishes to reiterate that the transportation of donkeys into the state is a criminal offence, and anyone found engaging in this will be prosecuted accordingly.

“Furthermore, the Kawo weekly market which usually holds every Tuesday in Kaduna North LGA has been suspended with immediate effect.”

Kaduna is the third northern state to ban transborder transportation of livestock after Zamfara and Kastina.
