Bartholomew Onyenka, the commissioner of Police in Plateau, has deployed officers to troubled communities as part of efforts to restore sanity in the state.

Over the past few months, some LGAs in Plateau have witnessed a spate of violent attacks, resulting in fatalities and displacement.

In May, Solomon Maren, a member of the house of representatives from Plateau, said over 100 people were killed in two days during overnight attacks in his constituency — Mangu/Bokkos.

TheCable had also reported how over 30 persons were reportedly killed in an attack by gunmen in Bwoi, Mangu.

The Plateau governor said 80 percent of the incidents are “pure genocide”, adding that over 30,000 people have been displaced.

Reacting to this development, Alfred Alabo, the police command spokesperson, said the commissioner has charged the personnel to fish out the perpetrators of the attacks and restore lasting peace to the affected communities

He said the commissioner warned the officers to be professional as anyone found wanting would not be spared.

“The quest is to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore lasting peace on the Plateau,” he said.
