Olayinka Braimoh, a former Action Alliance (AA) governorship candidate in Kogi, has raised concerns over the alleged escalating insecurity in Kabba-Bunu LGA of the state.

In a statement issued on Monday, Braimoh said kidnappings and gunmen attacks in the LGA have become a daily reality.

“The peaceful nature of Bunu people in Kabba-Bunu local government area of Kogi State has been trampled by unknown gunmen who are killing and abducting them at an alarming rate,” the statement reads.

“It is so bad to realize that apart from their inability to go to their farms again, every community now keeps vigil, running security shifts to secure the land. We have not seen any meaningful efforts from the government.

“I received a report of one of our brothers who was shot by these criminal elements in the Ape community.

“While he battles for his life in the hospital, his wife and four-month-old child are still being held in captivity.

“The kidnappers are demanding N50m. In the same vein, the Youth Leader of Apaa Community, Olorunmola, popularly known as Lawlee, was murdered in cold blood by another group of unknown gunmen who ambushed him and a white contractor overseeing a construction project in the area.

“While in Ayegunle community, another person by the name of Mr Francis was also reported to have been kidnapped by these ruthless attackers, demanding a huge ransom. All of these are happening in Bunu land.”

Braimoh criticised the state government for allegedly failing to take adequate measures to address the insecurity in the LGA and asked residents to support the local hunters fighting insecurity in the area.
