A police inspector has been killed in an attack on a checkpoint in Ebonyi state.
The incident happened around the Union Bank roundabout in Abakaliki, the state capital, on Monday night.
TheCable understands that two other officers were injured when the gunmen opened fire on the officers.
Onome Onovwakpoyeya, the Ebonyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident.

The incident is the latest in a series of police checkpoint attacks in Ebonyi state.
On January 28, three police officers were killed by gunmen at the border checkpoint along Enugu/Abakaliki expressway.
The gunmen, who operated in a Sienna bus, reportedly opened fire at the checkpoint, injuring one officer in the leg and killing three.

On December 5 2022, two people — including a police officer — were killed following an attack on a police checkpoint along Presco junction in Abakaliki.
The gunmen were said to have arrived on motorcycles and fired at the officers.
