Inspector ‘shot’ as police repel ISWAP attack on station in Borno

The Borno police command has reportedly repelled an attack by some suspected members of the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) in Magumeri town. 

According to Zagazola Makama, a publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the suspected ISWAP fighters stormed a divisional police command in the town in a convoy of gun trucks and motorcycles at about 12:35 am on Sunday.

A source close to the operation told the publication that the attack triggered a fierce gun battle between the police operatives and the terrorists.

Makama gathered that while the police team were able to resist the attack, one Bitrus Umaru, an inspector, was shot in the stomach and right leg.

The terrorists were said to have carted away one Hilux patrol vehicle.

Meanwhile, troops of Operation Hadin Kai of the Nigerian Army have reportedly killed three Boko Haram terrorists in Gubio LGA Borno.

According to Makama, the terrorists were killed by the troops during a gun battle on Friday.

The publication added that the troops, in conjunction with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), intercepted the suspected terrorists after robbing commuters on Friday evening.

A source told Makama that two of the terrorists carried Ak47 riffles while the third one was their rider. 

“We recovered two Ak47, two Magazines and a motorcycle from the terrorists,” the source said.
