Institute of Directors certifies Bella Disu

Bella Disu, Globacom’s executive vice chairman, has been certified by the Institute of Directors.

Disu and 65 others were certified at the February 2019 New Members induction ceremony of the institute which held at Eko Hotels on Thursday.

She was among those who bagged the institute’s full membership, while some others got associate membership, three directors got life membership.

Disu, who joined Globacom in 2004, is also a director of Julius Berger Plc, the biggest construction company in Nigeria.

Welcoming guests to the event, Ahmed Mohammed, president and chairman of the governing council of the institute, charged the inductees on the importance of corporate governance to lead successfully.

He also asked the inductees to continue on a path of continuous learning.

Delivering a lecture on the theme “Eight Technologies every Director needs to be aware of”, Andrew Nevin, chief economist of PricewaterhouseCoopers, said the number of private sector companies in the country ought to increase to banish poverty.

He said the largest foreign exchange earner for Nigeria are its people working in the diaspora.

He listed the eight technologies needed to include Cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence, 3D Printing, Drones, Virtual Reality, Internet of Things, Robotics and Blockchain, urging the inductees to get familiar with them to enhance their capacity and competence.

Responding on behalf of the inductees, Akin Fanimokun of FirstBank, said the new members would uphold the ethics of the profession at all times.

The Institute of Directors was established 35 years ago to professionally develop directors by imbuing them with leadership skills to enable them to lead their organisations well and develop the country.
