Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, governor of Gombe, met with David Green, acting United States ambassador to Nigeria, in a bid to boost support for agriculture and human capital development.
The meeting held at the Gombe state governor’s lodge in Abuja on Thursday.
Ismaila Misilli, director-general of press affairs to the governor, said in a statement that Yahaya told the envoy that with a population of 3.8 million people, Gombe is desirous of more partnerships and collaborations across different sectors.
“Seeing you here today, I am filled with optimism and excitement about the possibilities that can emerge from our discussion,” Yahaya was quoted as saying.

“I firmly believe that by joining forces, we can create lasting impact that will benefit the people of Gombe and strengthen the bond of friendship between our nations.”
The governor said in the area of education, more needs to be done, given the number of out-of-school children.
The governor also explained that his administration is harnessing Gombe’s agri-business potential, and leveraging its three large dams that offer huge irrigation potential.

On his part, Green lauded Yahaya for his visionary disposition, and assured the governor of his country’s readiness to work with Gombe in areas of mutual interest and benefit.
He also said his office will be interested in holding collaborative discussions with the northern governors’ forum (NGF) chaired by Yahaya, once the embassy deals with its internal changes.
