The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has fixed the minimum volume of automotive gas oil (AGO), also known as diesel, that can be purchased by oil marketers, at one million litres.

Speaking to TheCable on Tuesday, Abubakar Maigandi, national president, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), said the refinery started selling the product to marketers on March 2.

“The Dangote Petroleum Refinery put a target of one million litres as minimum limit for marketers who want to purchase diesel,” he said.

“That is the least amount of diesel that marketers can purchase from the refinery.

“The refinery has started operations for only diesel — not PMS.”

Meanwhile, the 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) capacity refinery was inaugurated by former President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2023.

The company, on December 8, 2023, had said the refinery is designed for 100 percent Nigerian crude “with the flexibility to process other crudes”.

Dangote refinery also said the refinery “can process most African crude grades as well as Middle Eastern Arab Light and even US Light tight oil as well as crude from other countries”.

The plant started operations with the production of diesel and aviation fuel on January 12 — after receiving six shipments of crude.
