The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has maintained that its sit-at-home order in the south-east is still in place.
Kanunta Kanu, Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, had earlier announced that the order had been suspended to allow students in the region to participate in the activities of the National Examination Council (NECO).
In a counter-statement issued by Emma Powerful, the IPOB spokesperson, on Sunday night, he said the lockdown order is “sacrosanct”.
“The attention of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) led by our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been drawn to the purported suspension of Monday’s sit at home order issued by leadership of IPOB has been suspended by some sections of the media. We wish to remind every Biafran that the sit at home order remains sacrosanct on Monday tomorrow,” the statement reads.

“Anybody issuing press statement concerning IPOB sit at home order is fake and any statement without sit at home order or any activity of IPOB remains comrade Emma Powerful the media and publicity secretary for IPOB.
“Therefore, every Biafran should disregard every statement that is not from Emma Powerful or DOS and radio Biafra.”
TheCable had reported that IPOB said it will enforce a lockdown every Monday in the south-east until Kanu is released.

The proscribed group had said the lockdown tagged “Ghost Monday” will also affect schools and marketplaces.
Kanu is facing charges bordering on treasonable felony brought against him by the federal government over his campaign for the Republic of Biafra.
He was released in April 2017 on health grounds but jumped bail after flouting some of the conditions given to him by the court.
Kanu was re-arraigned before Binta Nyako of the federal high court in Abuja on June 29 after being intercepted and extradited to Nigeria. His trial was adjourned till July 26 for a hearing.

The trial was later adjourned to October 21, due to the inability of the federal government to provide him in the court.
