Is David Okereke ready to be another Jay-Jay Okocha?

Nigeria has, still are, and always will be producing some of the best young talents in the world of football.

Start down the memory lane; back in the day with the likes of Jay-Jay Okocha and Nwankwo Kanu. Move on to more modern talents, the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Victor Osimhen, Alex Iwobi, Taiwo Awoniyi, Stephen Odey, Emmanuel Dennis, among a host of others.

But there is one Nigerian who seemed to be setting the league alight in Belgium and that man is 20-year-old David Okereke.

Before moving to Club Brugge from Spezia, Okereke was linked with Southampton, Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Standard Liege in the Summer Transfer Window.

The Nigeria international has established himself as one of European football’s brightest prospects ever since moving to Spezia’s in 2016.

He had an impressive 2018/19 Serie B season with 10 goals and 12 assists.

Okereke is a striker who plays for Belgian giants Club Brugge and so far this season has bagged himself three goals and one assist in two games in all competitions which is very impressive

The striker is a player who possesses some good pace which sees him burst past players with ease to score goals.

Another one of Okereke’s strengths is his skills and dribbling ability which added to his pace makes him a scary threat.

With the season just beginning, Okereke still has time to rack up his tally even more and turn even more heads than he has already, and I have no doubt that in the summer multiple clubs will be battling it out for his signature at the end of the campaign.

Will he be anything like Jay-Jay Okocha, who made global stars bow in awe of his dexterity on the ball?
