The Islamic State of Syria and the Levant (IS/ISIS/ISIL), is pitting Jordan against the United States (US) by claiming a Jordanian air strike killed a US citizen (pictured) on Friday.
On Friday, Jordan launched an airstrike on the Islamist sect as part of its earlier-promised “earth-shattering” response to the brutal murder of Jordanian pilot Moaz al-Kasasbeh.
ISIS said the air strike, which hit northern Syria on Friday, killed a US aid worker who was captured by the group a year ago.
The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) who spoke to Fox News said it was aware of the claims and currently trying to verify its authenticity.

According to New York Times, a message from the terror group said the Jordanian air strike failed but succeeded in killing an American hostage.
“The failed Jordanian aircraft killed an American female hostage,” the message read in part. “No mujahid (fighter) was injured in the bombardment, and all praise is due to Allah,” the sect added.
On Tuesday, a video emerged online showing ISIS burning Jordanian pilot Kasasbeh, captured by the sect in December 2014, after a failed negotiation attempt to rescue the pilot.

On Wednesday, Jordan killed two ISIS prisoners it had in custody as a strong message to the sect on what it was willing to do to avenge the death of al-Kasasbeh.
If the death of the US citizen is verified by the CIA and other US intelligence agencies, it is unclear what this would do to the seamless US-Jordan relations.
