ISWAP fighters ‘kill 8 farmers’ in Borno, release minor to announce attack

The Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) has reportedly killed 8 farmers in the Mafa LGA of Borno. 

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the farmers were murdered on Thursday in Shuwarin, Tomsu Ngamdu, Baram Karauwa and Muna areas of the state. 

The publication said ten more people were also abducted by the insurgents during the attack. 

The insurgents reportedly set a 16-year-old boy free to convey the magnitude of their attack to relatives.

Zagazola Makama said Babagana Zulum, Borno governor, has visited the scene and assured the communities of adequate security. 

Bodies of the victims were reportedly recovered on Friday by troops of the Nigerian army and members of the communities.

TheCable had reported how, on June 15, 2023, suspected Boko Haram fighters killed about 15 farmers in attacks on two communities in Jere LGA of Borno.

The publication said the terrorists beheaded the farmers near Molai, on the outskirts of Maiduguri. 

“At least 15 bodies were evacuated this morning, the attacks took place yesterday (Thursday),” Zagazola Makama quoted Bukar Ali Musty, a top member of a vigilante group in the community, as saying.
