‘It is brotherly love’ — Wike, Udom Emmanuel, Ortom meet in Rivers amid PDP crisis

Udom Emmanuel, governor of Akwa Ibom, has visited Nyesom Wike, his Rivers counterpart, amid the lingering crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

On Saturday, the Akwa Ibom governor held a closed-door meeting with Wike, while Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue, was also in attendance.

The meeting held in Port Harcourt, the Rivers capital.

Emmanuel is the director-general of the Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign council.

The meeting comes amid claims that the G5 governors of the PDP, led by Wike, may endorse Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the presidency.

Although Wike and Tinubu have spoken on the speculations in separate reactions, at a media briefing on Saturday, the Rivers governor said the meeting with his Akwa Ibom counterpart was a friendly discussion.

“Everybody knows my relationship with Udom. We will continue to maintain that relationship. We may have different political affiliations and thinking. That should not divide us or create a gap in brotherly love,” he said.

“Like he said, it is for the spirit of the birth of Christ and we are going to the new year. There is a need to continue with that relationship as brothers and friends.

“So, anything about politics was not part of that discussion. Anything on politics was not discussed at all.”

On his part, the Akwa Ibom governor said the visit to Wike is based on the “brotherly love” associated with the yuletide, adding that it is not a political visit.

“If it is politics, I would have told you I came in for politics. I came in to see my brother. Why are you asking me about the mission?” Emmanuel asked.

“I am in my brother’s house. This is not the first time; this is not the second time; and this is not the third time you are seeing me here.

“But I think this is the season of love. Love not shown is love wasted. I think that is what we are trying to demonstrate.”
